Some Staff Parties to Remember!
If you’re wondering how best to reward your loyal staff this year, then why not take inspiration from the staff parties thrown by the likes of Virgin and Google.
The Virgin Staff Parties
Not known for his low-key approach to life, Richard Branson seems to apply the same philosophy to his Virgin staff parties – there are no limp sandwiches and dubious DJs at this bash! Each summer, the Virgin founder throws the party to end all parties at his Oxfordshire estate. Gates open at midday with the festivities carrying on until at least midnight – plenty of opportunity to let your hair down!
Up to an amazing 60,000 excitable guests attend, made up of the employees and families of the very many and varied Virgin businesses. Everyone from the tiniest tots to the oldest ravers are catered for with fantastic entertainment to suit every age group – no expense is spared.
Branson firmly believes in making work fun, and that includes being able to rave, relax or cut loose as a team, whatever you wish at staff parties. Whether you’re a junior at the airline, or the CFO of the group, everyone is encouraged to sing their hearts out at the karaoke, dance like crazy, limbo or trampoline as if they’re still at primary school.
It’s this non-conformist approach to company hierarchy that ensures that Virgin is regularly voted one of the best employers in the UK, and with around 350,000 drinks served at each party, it’s probably responsible for the largest number of staff party hangovers each year! As Branson himself once said: “If you can remember a Virgin party, then you probably weren’t there!”
The Google Staff Parties
Another company at the top of the staff parties league table is Google, who held a Christmas party at London’s Roundhouse venue last year. An amazing live music set was supplied by electro-pop act Years and Years, and an opulent atmosphere was based around a decadent Black and Gold theme that included the venue’s amazing decor, adventurous dress code, spectacular entertainers and even the glorious food!
Guests were wowed by a futuristic light show, an amazing ticker tape storm, while flamboyant circus acts wowed the guests as they enjoyed sumptuous food and decadent cocktails.
The Bloomberg Staff Parties
Looking for a suitably cool theme for a party? How about the Seven Deadly Sins event thrown by Bloomberg back in 2000 at the height of the technology and financial market boom. With a reputed budget of a shocking £1 million, this was truly an event to remember. With one of the many bars offering copious amounts of truffles and chocolate to represent ‘gluttony’, and a ‘lust room’ featuring a resplendent giant purple satin bed, the organisers certainly didn’t hold back! Employees enjoyed delightful massages, manicures and an endless stream of entertainment including lively cabaret acts, fantastic live music and parading drag queens. We’d love to have been a fly on the wall at that party!
