7 makeup tips for your Summer wedding

Most brides looking forward to a Summer wedding are hoping for clear blue skies, gorgeous sunshine and pleasantly warm temperatures. What you don’t want to go alongside your perfect summer wedding day is a complete makeup meltdown. We have put together our top Summer wedding makeup tips to have you glowing, rather than shining on your big day.

1. Skin preparation

If you suffer from oily skin, then we highly recommend investing in a good quality oil-free moisturiser to help reduce shine. You may also want to look at a good primer that will help you maintain a shine-free face. No.7 do a great primer that you apply before your foundation but after moisturising that will help reduce any excess oil.

2. Blotting sheets

These little beauties are fabulous even if you don’t suffer from oily skin and we think they’re an absolute essential on your wedding day. They come in packs of thin sheets that allow you to do super fast touch ups at the first sign of any shine or moisture breakouts. Ideal for in between photographs or anytime you start to feel the heat.

3. Oil free foundation

If you’re lucky enough to have clear, blemish-free skin then foundation may not be necessary and you can rely on concealer to cover up any uneven areas. However, if you’re like the rest of us mere mortals, then a full foundation base is essential. We suggest an oil-free foundation applied with a foundation brush rather than your fingers as this way you reduce the risk of transferring any oil or heat to your face and ruining your flawless finish.

4. Waterproof mascara

Even if you’re convinced you’ll be able to keep your composure, even the most steadfast brides can lose control of their emotions on their wedding day. So, don’t risk sporting that classic makeup faux pas – panda eyes – and use a waterproof mascara on your special day. You’ll be surprised at how your emotions can get the better of you at the most unexpected moment. Ask your bridesmaid to have a pack of tissues at the ready and trust us about the waterproof mascara!

5. Blush

If your wedding day is a scorcher, you could find yourself worrying about your make up sliding down your face and blusher is quite often the first thing to shift. Our advice is to use a powder based formula that will make you look fresh for longer as it helps absorb any excess oil. Creamy products can streak and cause excess shine which is to be avoided at all costs.

6. Lip tricks

There’s a lot of lip action on your wedding day what with all that kissing, eating and drinking, so how do you make sure your lipstick stays in place for more than 5 minutes? Easy. In the run up to the big day, use a gentle face scrub and a toothbrush to exfoliate your lips and remove any dead layers of skin. On the big day itself, start by applying a lip balm to moisturise your lips thoroughly and help the colour to slide on. Line your lips with a lip pencil that matches your lipstick and then blot with a tissue and face powder to lock the colour in place. Apply one last coat of lipstick and you’re ready for your big entrance.

7. Emergency touch up kit

If you forget all our other pieces of advice, we implore you to remember an emergency touch up kit to take with you to your wedding venue. If you’re not carrying a clutch, then task your bridesmaid with making sure your makeup essentials are always within reach. You’ll need blotting sheets, a powder compact, lipstick and a concealer on hand at all times. That’s it! You’re ready to go!
