Stick to your promises
Always, always, always deliver what you promised. There are no exceptions to this and your products should arrive on time and on budget, to the exact specification ordered. If you can’t manage to deliver the basics well, you’ll be in no position to create the wow factor.
Make sure your internal teams know exactly what is expected of them, and how their role impacts on a customer’s experience. Ensure you have effective systems in place to manage your sales and production process and keep continually reviewing and assessing your processes to seek out improvements.
Try and contact your customers when they’re least expecting it. Call just to check in, say hello, and get an update on their experience so far. There’s no hidden agenda, just an opportunity to show that you’re thinking of them.
If there have been any issues with their order, this way, you’ll get to hear about them before the customer needs to contact you themselves to register a complaint. You can help alleviate any frustrations on their part, and give reassurances that you will personally ensure the issue is fixed.
Making time to build personal relationships with your clients is an excellent way to nurture customer loyalty. By learning more about them, you’ll be in a much stronger position to anticipate their future needs, and how best you can meet them.
Going above and beyond
Whenever you can, exceed your customer’s expectations. It doesn’t matter how you do this, it just matters that you make them feel special. Send a birthday card, offer them a free gift, or give them advance access to a new promotion. Anything that makes your customers feel that they’re getting a superior service will make them feel valued, and they are then far more likely to recommend you to their friends and colleagues.
When you’re planning a corporate event, make sure you invite your key customers as they are essential to your future success. Show your appreciation by inviting them to launch events or your annual party. Extend a personal invitation and make sure you welcome them in person to show your appreciation for their continued support.
Find something they don’t know they need!

Your clients may not know or appreciate the full range of products or services that you offer so you can join the dots, and show them what they’re missing! Say thank you
It’s an oldie, but a goodie! Make sure you say thank you to your customers and never take them for granted. If you don’t make them feel valued, you won’t build loyalty and when a cheaper alternative presents itself, they won’t think twice about shifting supplier.
In a world where email dominates, break with tradition and pick up the phone to your customers. Say thank you for a particularly large order, or simply ring to say thanks for the repeat business. This personal approach will go a long way towards building trust and securing your reputation as a business that cares.
